June 1 Meditation - Between Heaven and Earth
“Heaven on Earth is a choice you must make, not a place you must find.” —Wayne Dyer
There is a lot going on in the world right now! I want to start by acknowledging that, and giving a nod to the fact that I am totally unqualified to speak to most of the larger national and international issues that are front and center right now. And still, I think it would be appropriate to acknowledge the very worthwhile fights that are happening right now with a moment of silence.
I *am* qualified to speak about energy, and that’s where I’m going to take this diatribe. I am about to graduate from psychic school. These are words I really didn’t expect to utter when I was thinking about what I wanted to be when I grew up. But here we are, and it’s been quite a journey, and I want to use some of the themes and imagery I’ve been working on, with you, this evening.
It’s been really interesting to watch the ways that my Chinese medicine training intersects with my clairvoyant training. My favorite book on Chinese medicine is titled, “Between Heaven and Earth”, and even without diving into the content of that book I think you can get a lot from the title. This is us, this is the human experience—bridging the spirit world, the cosmos, and the material world, the earth. This is a remarkably fortunate position to be in, although it does not always feel that way. There is so much growth that can occur when you are a spirit who has taken a body.
A lot of the treatments I do are about making it easier for you to have this experience being between heaven and earth. I want you to have access to the wisdom and direction of the heavenly world and also to have ease and grace while in physical form. We need both. We need a spiritual path and purpose, and we also need a body that can facilitate our movements through the world. And they are not totally separate aspects of self, they inform one another and they cocreate your life experience. Stuck energy can affect the body, and it can affect the spirit, and the most profound treatments I know move that stuck energy so that you can feel like yourself again.
In psychic school, we learn how to move energy without using needles or herbs, but it’s the same principle. We frequently speak about both the body and the spirit, and the ways these two aspects of being both need care and attention. So tonight we are going to give our bodies and our spirits the hello that they crave, and you are going to do some healing work on yourself. I encourage you to enter this exploration by first releasing whatever outside events you’ve been pondering or agonizing over, and let this next hour be about harmonizing your own energetic system. The problems of the world will still be there when we’re finished. So with a couple deep breaths, begin to move your attention solely onto yourself, and move all the other pressing thoughts you might be having into a bubble just outside your home.
One of the authors of “Between Heaven and Earth”, Efrem Korngold, taught my pediatrics class at ACTCM, and one of his favorite phrases was, “lose your mind and come to your senses.” In this meditation, we’re going to sharpen the senses, including the sixth sense. You might think of this as intuition, inner knowing, but we need to acknowledge a link between intuition and imagination. For tonight’s meditation, I encourage you to give yourself over to your imagination. Whatever comes up for you, just go with it, no matter how fantastic or contrived it seems.
“I lack nothing, I tell you!”
“Nothing?” I asked. “Not even heaven?”
He lowered his head and was silent. But after a moment:
“Heaven is too high for me. The earth is good, exceptionally good–and near me!”
“Nothing is nearer to us than heaven. The earth is beneath our feet and we tread upon it, but heaven is within us.”
― Nikos Kazantzakis, Zorba the Greek
